We’ve all heard of “speed traps” set up by law enforcement to catch unsuspecting drivers of exceeding the speed limit by the most minimal MPHs.
One of the worst Traffic Traps (a term coined by AAA) was a nightmare for Florida drivers or anyone driving through the towns of Lawtey and Waldo.
Both Florida towns were put on the map for a more notorious reason. In fact, it earned one of the top spots as “The Worst Speed Trap Cities” in North America, according to the National Motorists Association.
Since 1995, drivers were pulled over for profit, not safety after years of investigation by AAA.
Then, in 2014 traffic citations were handed over to a different arm of the law and the practice of hitting quotas instead of enforcing safety ended.
Both towns have since been stripped of its less-desirable titles after over 20 years. Congrats, and drive safely!
